The Hot Springs Fire of 1913 is subject of history meeting

The Hot Springs Fire of 1913 will be the subject of the Pope County Historical Association meeting Friday, May 14, at the St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center cafeteria in Russellville.

Dr. Buckley Foster, visiting assistant professor of History at the University of Central Arkansas, will present the program. . It was the worst fire in Arkansas history, destroying nearly half of Hot Springs. He will show a DVD that he wrote, photographed, narrated, edited, and produced.

Originally from Booneville, Dr. Foster has two degrees from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and a Ph.D. from Mississippi State University. He has published a book entitled Sherman’s Mississippi Campaign about William T. Sherman's development of his hard war policy during the American Civil War. He lives in Clarksville with a wife and two daughters.

No reservations are needed for the meal, which begins at 6 p.m. The meeting, at 7, is free and open to the public.
